Welcome to this week’s Red Hot Round-up. Every week, we gather together the biggest sunglasses news stories into one place and include any news of our own, including competitions, giveaways, buying trips, and new designer sunglasses collections. Last week, we raved about our incredible buying trip to Milan to see the latest collections from Luxottica. This week, we’re talking about the top bloggers who are wearing our sunglasses and we’re shining our spotlight on Tom Ford because we’ve recently welcomed the newest Tom Ford sunglasses range to our vast online collection.

Regular readers of our round-up will have noticed that we’ve been giving a little summary every week or so about the top bloggers and Instagrammers who feature our sunglasses. We’ve got a few favourite influencers out there who do an amazing job modelling and posting about our sunglasses, so we like to give them a little shout out on our weekly round-ups. This week, male fashion blogger and Instagram star Christian Bendek posted a great shot of himself (above) wandering around New York wearing a pair of our black Saint Laurent sunglasses.

We’re also really pleased to be working with Romanian blogger Mihaela Gurau. Mihaela shared some of her summer essentials and included a stunning pair of French Connection sunglasses from Red Hot Sunglasses!

And finally, Charlotte Fisher, one of our favourite fashion bloggers, was in Tropicana Ibiza Suites, wearing a stunning pair of Stella McCartney sunglasses from our collection.

Brand in the Spotlight: Tom Ford

Tom Ford.

We have a new range of Tom Ford sunglasses to add to our already-huge collection, so we’re taking a closer look at Tom Ford this week in our brand spotlight. Eve wrote a much longer Tom Ford spotlight you can read if you’d like to know more.  The latest Tom Ford sunglasses here at RHS are very exciting. They prove, once again, that Tom Ford knows how to excite the fashion world with his trademark mixture of vintage styles with playful modern twists. It’s this combination of old and new that we’ve come to expect from Tom Ford, and it is the reason Tom Ford is one of the biggest eyewear brands in the world.

Tom Ford hails from Texas, but he recognised that he had to move to Europe to realise his potential as a designer. Ford dabbled with art history, acting, and architecture before realising his call as a fashion designer. He began as an intern at Chloé and then worked for Gucci for years, moving to Italy to dedicate himself to his vocation. At Gucci, Ford worked up the ladder until he became their creative director in 1992. It is widely known that Gucci hadn’t been doing very well before Ford took over and that he was responsible for the brand’s emphatic revival. When Gucci acquired Yves Saint Laurent, Ford took over as creative director there as well. This meant that he was serving as creative director for both Gucci and YSL – two of Europe’s top fashion houses.

In 2006, Ford left Gucci and YSL to start up his own fashion label and he hasn’t looked back since. In the Tom Ford brand, we see Ford’s European influences, but we also see subtle American influences that he was not able to express when he worked at Gucci or YSL. Ford’s sunglasses are elegant, luxurious, and timeless. We’re very pleased to add the newest collection to Red Hot Sunglasses. Here’s a preview of some of our favourite new models:
